How to schedule your Teams status

Teams has no weekly status planner, but four approaches get close.

The short answer

For a one-off, use Duration in Teams. For recurring focus or meeting blocks, put them in your Outlook calendar. For anything beyond that, use Power Automate if your organisation allows it, or Teams Assist for set times by weekday.

Microsoft: status and duration ↗

1. Duration in Teams

Select your profile picture, choose a status, then Duration. Teams returns to automatic status when it ends. Microsoft documents Duration for statuses other than Available.

2. Outlook calendar blocks

Meetings and blocked time in Outlook make Teams show In a meeting or Busy. A recurring "Focus" event is the simplest way to show Busy at the same time every day.

3. Power Automate

Some organisations use flows to change presence. Availability depends on licences, connectors and admin permissions, so this is usually an IT project rather than a personal setting.

4. Set times with Teams Assist

Teams Assist adds the weekly planner Teams is missing. Add rules such as "Busy 09:00–11:00, Mon–Fri" or a timer like "until 15:30", and your status follows them automatically. The Panel shows your live Teams status, so you can see each change take effect.

How it works

The extension runs inside your own Edge browser, next to Teams for web. When you choose a status in the Panel, it passes your choice to the open Teams tab, applies it there just as you would yourself, and reads back the result from your profile. Your Microsoft sign-in stays with Microsoft; Teams Assist never sees your password or messages.

Common questions

Can I schedule my status in Teams?

Teams has no weekly status schedule. Teams Assist adds one: set rules like Busy 09:00–11:00, Mon–Fri, and your status follows them automatically.

Does Outlook change my Teams status?

Yes. Meetings in your Outlook calendar normally show you as In a meeting or Busy in Teams during that time.

Can Power Automate change my Teams status?

Some organisations build flows for presence, but it depends on available connectors and permissions. Check with your IT department.

What happens when a scheduled time ends?

With Teams Duration, status returns to automatic. With Teams Assist set times, your status returns to normal automatically when the time ends.
